Friendship Series: Part One

Hey guys! It has been WAY too long! I have been super busy over the past month or so but I finally got some free time to blog. This one isn't completley by me. It is rather some meditations and passages from Mark Driscoll's Proverbs series. The series is a fantastic one and I reccomend you check it out! (www.marshillchurch.org). I will be posting a series of blogs revolving around The freindship sermon in the proverbs series. God has really been showing me that there are things he wants us to know about friendship. I hope this series blesses you as much as the sermon has been blessing me. So here we go!

Friendship ultimately starts with God.

God is Trinitarian (Meaning he is 1 being made up by three beings): Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Since he is made of three beings, God always has companions to be in relationship with. So God has friends and is a friend at the same time. The idea of human friendship is modeled after the Trinity. We are not meant to be solitary beings.

Many world religions hold the belief that God made us because God was lonely and wanted a friend. In this way the God of the bible is different from the many world religions out there. God maintains perfect loving relations with and of himself through the Trinity. He does not NEED our friendship nor did he create us out of loneliness.

In the beginning when God started to created our world, He said it was good. The day was good, the night was good, and the animals were good. The first thing God said was “not good” was that man was alone. Based on this, we know God wants us to be in relationship with others; in friendship, in community. He wants us to be relational because that’s how He is and He made us in his image and likeness.
